BLOG 5 - 3D Printing

No Ink Required

Throughout the project the chassis design team have been looking for innovative technologies to integrate into our chassis design. 3D printing is a relatively new technology and its potential is still being realised. There has recently been progress in chassis production using nodes which are used to link individual sections of the chassis together using aluminium. These nodes can be 3D printed which allows for an easily adjusted chassis which is adaptable to change.

The university has invested in 3D printers this year and so this was seen as the perfect opportunity to make use of this new technology in a practical application. The team are very excited by the prospect of using the 3D printers and we have already just put in a request to print a node so that we can see what it is like and the strength of the final product.

Using this method is perfect since our concept is always requiring small changes and this way the chassis is always adaptable and ready to keep up with the changes.
